Juliet's house is probably one of the most romantic sights of Italy. Thousands of couples in love from around the world come here in order to stick a love note on the wall with a piece of bubblegum or rub the shiny chest of monument to Juliet. By the way, the power of love is so great that Juliet's chest is rubbed into holes from time to time and they literally have to seal it with metal.
This building itself was originally built in the 12th century; furnishings inside the house are from the 16th-17th centuries. The legend ties together the house and Juliet because the representatives of the Cappello family lived here for several centuries who are considered to be a prototype of Capuleti of the Shakespeare play. A bronze statue of Juliet by sculptor Nereo Costantini stands in the courtyard.
Love is a great feeling; however it's a real nightmare for the curators of the museum. The love wishes are written on walls, gates, doors… The local street cleaners go crazy from their expression of emotions. In order to keep the place clean it was decided to put a tree in the courtyard of Juliet's house for hanging of love notes. There is also a possibility to send texts or love emails which will be then displayed there on a special screen.
Actually, the arguments about this house are still going on. A part of scientific researchers considers that there was no Juliet and therefore, there was no place where the famous play of Shakespeare took place. However, the couples in love from around the world think differently and still keep on coming here and leaving love notes.
