Truffle Fair, Alba (October 3rd – November 8th, 2009)Back to the events list

In October and November, when the truffles season opens in the northern part of Italy, thousands of gourmands rush over there to get a taste of what is considered the most rare and expensive edible fungi in Europe.

One of the best known truffle fairs in Italy is held in Alba of Cuneo province. The fair lasts for about a month bringing together dozens of business, cultural, and traditional events.

The International Truffle Fair in Alba is also a market place that bring together traders who represent some of the largest European restaurants, as well as gourmands from all over the world. For those who wish to widen their erudition in regards to truffles there are seminars and master-classes being held, where specialists explain how to pick, grade, cook, and store truffles properly. Considerable attention is paid to other products of local origin, especially to wines that best complement truffle dishes.

Street markets are spread across the downtown area for the whole period of the festival. You can also try meals from the Italian cuisine and buy all sorts of delicacies. The exhibitions, concerts, musical and literary nights are accompanied by wine tastings and appetizers creating a unique atmosphere for a full scale cultural program. The fun doesn’t stop here though – on the streets of Alba you can run into a theatrical show, donkey races, national games, or other folkloric shows at any time.
