France has one more peculiarity, distinguishing it from the other countries — it celebrates the greatest number of events, dedicated to gastronomy. French people believe that the feeling of taste and understanding of what fine cooked food is, should be educated in people since childhood, as well as the ability to read.
In France there are almost no places, offering the so-called "fast food". What can be better than a roast steak or a sea perch fillet with a dressing? That is why such a great date as the Chestnut holiday should not be missed. In France this product is highly appreciated and considered a national one. A special kind of chestnuts is grown in France, it is called "cougourdon".
At the end of October the country gets cloaked in the flavour of roast chestnuts. They are cooked right at the streets, the smell is captivating – you can not resist it. No one can resist the temptation to taste the little sac of chestnuts. The unusual, original taste of this dainty can hardly be described and never forgotten.
At this day all the basic dishes include chestnuts – salad with asparagus, scallops, and chestnuts, risotto with shrimp, chocolate-chestnut mousse with orange jelly.
This event is the continuation of the week of taste that is held in all the regions of France, starting with the third Monday of October. The holiday of Choucroute, during which you can taste sauerkraut with frankfurters, poured with beer, the Holiday of spicery, the Holiday of Cider, and the Holiday of Fish are celebrated in turn.
