Lemon Festival, Menton (February 12th - March 3rd, 2010)Back to the events listEvery year residents of Menton hold a festival of lemons. This holiday was first celebrated yet in the end of the 19th century, but French still find if merry and interesting. More than a hundred of visitors come for this celebration. In 2010 it will be held from February 12 to March 3.
Lemons from Menton are definitely the "kings" of lemons, because warm climate of French Riviera allows growing them all year round. They pick three harvests of lemons with biggest one in March-April. This festival was meant to be a preparation to the most rich harvest season in Menton.
They use 130 tons (!) of delicious lemons for preparation of the festival of lemons in Menton.
They decorate Menton with the most unusual figures of lemons, oranges and grapefruit. You will be able to see orange castles, fairy tale characters from lemons and huge eatable trees! There is a procession parade of golden fruits decorated with lemons and flowers. Back to the events list |
