A festival of modern dance is held on Gran Canaria Island every year since 1996. The festival is called Masdanza.
Masdanza Festival gained considerable attention outside the borders of Spain. Fans of classic and avant-garde ballet, as well as those who appreciate the more modern types of dancing like brake dancing, hip-hop, etc. come literally by the thousands. You will get a chance to see teams from Spain, France, Korea, Japan, Hungary, Israel, Slovenia, and pretty much all the other countries from every continent (except Antarctica). And on top of everything else, Masdanza Festival features photo exhibitions where you can see frozen moments of dance.
Artists dance not only in theaters and to see a show you don't always need to have a ticket. Masdanza on Gran Canaria is famous for the shows which take place in the parks and on the streets of the city.
Masdanza is not just another dancing festival, it is also a prestigious contest. Winners get a chance to perform on the best dance floors of Europe.
