The parliament of Spanish region Aragon will soon aprove a legislative package which will allow for the building of the most expensive entertainment complex in Europe to begin. The Gran Scala Megaproject involves the construction of casino-hotels, theme parks, a horse race track in a rural area, not far from a village called Ontinena. Despite the predominance of roman catholics, who live in this region and associate casinos with a deadly sin, the plan for a "spanish response to Vegas" was approved by the majority of votes in the local community. A survey of the town’s people showed that around 80% of the villagers in Ontinena are positively inclined towards the construction of 30 casio-hotels, a conference center, theme parks, golf fields, a horse race track, and other objects on a territory which has an area of approximately 1500 football fields.

The population of the Ontinena village, a two-hour drive from Barcelona, is about 600 people; many of the villagers are willing to sell their estates, regardless of the fact that the company only intends to spend $20 billion for lan purchases. By building this complex spanish authorities hope to pull the region out of poverty. It is no secret that the level of unemployment in Spain is the highest in Europe, and over 200 000 jobs which will be created during the construction process will significantly increase the living conditions for many spaniards. The locals have big hopes in regard to the bright future of the megaproject Gran Scala.
