Paris hotel goes on strike after Obama’s booking Jun 04, 2009The employees of Westin Paris, a four star hotel where USA President, Barack Obama, was supposed to be accommodated, went on strike July 3rd, informs Le Parisien. According to the information provided by the unions, there are somewhere around 150 people participating in the strike out of the total 430 employees of the hotel. They demand salary raises, an increase in the number of holidays (11 a year) and a strict adherence to the schedule, so that nobody has to spend overtime hours at work. In addition to the above, strikers are asking the administration to pay for the stockings, sock, and shoes of those employees of the hotel who are required to wear a uniform to work and reimburse the cleaning staff in the cases when they have to use their own soaps and detergents.
How will the strike affect the functioning of the hotel remains a mystery. Executive director, Marie-Paule Vande Velde announced that the administration of the hotel will do everything in its power to maintain a high level of service and noted that starting with the 4th of July she will organize regular meetings with the protesters to negotiate a deal. Meanwhile, sources in the unions say that the strike “brought to a minimum” the work of the restaurant, the bell boys don’t work, as well as the catering service and the conference room. In addition, the protesters created disturbances at the hotel by gathering in the winter garden, where they showed their indignation in a loudly manner. Back to news
