Futuristic bus stops will appear in ItalyJun 13, 2009Italian authorities will attempt to make a leap into the future by installing a system of brand new bus stops called EyeStop. The innovative side of the stops is that people will be able to obtain information over their mobile devices. The typical bus stops in Italy are made from a steel frame with plastic or glass walls and a roof which allows passengers to sit out their waiting time, shelter them from rain, or simply wait for their transport. EyeStop however will be a much more futuristic construct, with transparent walls, where one can obtain all necessary information about the current location of buses on the route, approximate waiting time, schedule, direction, and possible delay. In fact, in case of a delay the EyeStop will permit free internet access in order to check the mail or browse the web.
Actually it is not necessary to go to the bus stop because all the information can be obtained over the phone by simply sending a message – you will receive a reply with all the information you need about the route and waiting time. In addition to the route and commercials, EyeStop will provide Italians with data about the quality of air, weather forecasts, and more. Florence will be the first city to feature over 200 EyeStops as early as October. Another 1000 EyeStop Poles will be installed in 2010. Back to news
