The Dark Madrid – Tours in the Capital of Spain Jul 02, 2009Mystical events, myths, legends and crimes of the past seem to get a lot of attention from visitors of Madrid. They now have the opportunity to find out the details of many bloody stories. During a series of walking tours of The Dark Madrid, guests will be able to see the parts of the city that are described in famous detective stories. The excursions happen at night.
A group of 30 people is led by a guide who tells stories about the dark side of Madrid. Those willing to participate in the night time walking tour will need to fill out a form at the Tourism Center of Madrid and pay 7,65 Euros. The program of the tour includes not only visits to places were murders were committed. On the 4th and 18th of July, 1st and 22nd of August, and on the 5th and 19th of September, guests will have an opportunity to witness the execution scenes of the Holy Inquisition. This shall serve as the starting point of all the tours along the streets of Madrid.
Specifically, tourists will visit the murder site of poet Juan de Tassis y Peralta, who died in 1622 from the hand of an unknown criminal, as well as the place where Luis Candelas, the most famous Madrid robber, was killed. He is considered one of the most notorious robbers of Madrid. There are many legends connected to his name. Candelas was arrested and sentenced to death in 1837.
