The first dog beach in Rome Sep 07, 2009Heat in Rome is when the air temperature rises above 40 degrees Celsius. The city authorities became worried not only about tourist and local people but about their pets as well. Now everyone arriving to Rome with their pet dogs can enjoy the Bau Beach on the shores of Tiber. Surrounded by green trees and cared for lawns, a special 50 centimeter deep pool was constructed specifically for dogs.
The creator of the first in Italy swimming pool for dogs, Pierpaolo Azzone, states that the animals in Rome were always secured with water and food, and they were granted access into many restaurants, together with their owners. Unfortunately dogs are often forbidden at beaches and consequently suffer even more from the impossible heat.
Due to the fact that the body temperature of dogs is higher than that of their owners, they often overheat. Unlike people, who have sweat glands spread out through the body, dogs have them only between their toes, which is why heat strokes are more common amongst dogs, says MSNBC.
The beach is open seven days a week, until 21:00. During the first month of operation it is expected to serve over 3 thousand dogs.
