The Monterey Jazz Festival has passed the 50 years mark this time. Louis Armstrong, Harry James, Dizzy Gillespie, and John Louis gave it such a head start back in 1958 that the festival is still considered one of the most respected and venerable in the jazz world.
On the third weekend of September of every year Monterey hosts some of the best jazz musicians and bands from across the world. In addition to concerts, the virtuosos of one of the most eccentric music genres will give master classes and hang out with fans.
Following the tradition, festival participants will perform in 9 different venues. Some years had as much as 500 performers and bands coming to entertain the public in Monterey. This year's main festival arena will feature; Cassandra Wilson, Kurt Elling, the legendary quartet of Wayne Shorter, the Christian McBride quintet, the Joshua Redman trio, and more.
Visitors are offered two choices regarding the ticketing system: Arena Packages – include reserved seats at 5 concerts performances on the Jimmy Lyons Stage, the right to enter all the shows at the other 8 venues, as well as entry to all the events of the Festival, such as exhibitions, discussion forums, meetings, etc. The price of the Arena Package is starting at $220. The second option is called Ground Tickets – one-day. Ground tickets will let you visit 8 venues, and all the events (exhibitions, seminars), conducted on that day. The price of the Ground Ticket is $35.
There will also be a market area and a dining area at the festival. The market will feature CDs, souvenirs, various accessories and books related to your favorite artists.
