Regional château de Chaumont-sur-Loire Sep 17, 2009Dating back to the Middle ages and the Renaissance period the castle was rebuilt in the XIX Century. Restored and redecorated, the blooming and groomed castle has preserved the antique tapestries, the furniture, interior decoration and atmosphere of its flourishing times. The castle is known for being property of the mysterious Catherine de' Medici, following which it was owned by Diane de Poitiers. The castle also served as a refuge for the romance writer Germaine de Stael during the rule of Napoleon. And after that the castle belonged to princess de Broglie, who was the owner until 1938, organizing balls and parties that were considered the most luxurious throughout the whole history of Renaissance.
The landscaped park of the XIX Century hosts the international Gardening Festival since 1992. From April until October a magnificent panorama is created during the exhibition of the world's finest gardening achievements. Every year the pre-castle territories are filled with artists and landscapers who unfold twenty theme garden before a special jury. The festival discovers new talents and demonstrated innovational tendencies, innovative ideas and fresh influences in landscaping design.
The very first "Center of Art and Nature" was organized at the castle and invites modern artists to cooperate on different projects, while presenting their paintings, sculptures and photographs at the exhibition. They can also place their exhibits in the parks.
Starting at 10 PM of every night in July and August, the "Nocturnes" of Chaumont-sur-Loire provide for even more romanticism: every Friday the castle is lightened by a small fire of 2000 candles, every Wednesday a movie festival is featured in the Park, right under the sky, and every night except Friday you can enjoy the gardens, so skillfully illuminated by the stylish lights.
