Sicily nominated best vacation island in the world Sep 24, 2009
Sicily was nominated for best vacation island of 2009. Such is the opinion of the readers of one of the most authoritative touristic publications called Conde Nast Traveller. Conde Nast Traveller – a British magazine for travelers, which, among other things, is known for providing ratings of tourist destination around the world. Each year Conde Nast Traveller issues the Readers' Travel Award to the best touristic sites and hotels based on the readers' votes. The readers of Conde Nast Traveller voted Sicily as the best vacation island during the last five consecutive years. The result is even more impressive if we consider that in 2007 and 2008 Sicily didn't even make the top ten of best vacation islands. Meanwhile, in 2005 and 2006 Sicily enjoyed slightly more popularity, gathering enough votes to arrive in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
In 2009 Sicily managed to outcome by popularity such over-demanded island destinations like Bali, the Seychelles, the Maldives, Cuba, Hawaii, the Canary Islands, and the Islands of Greece. Upon the readers' votes the best vacation island is determined based on 10 main parameters, among which is the quality of dining, the quality of beaches, the diversity of tourist sites, and the amount of picturesque scenery.
In addition to participating in the hit-parade of best vacation island, Sicily is mentioned in a whole range of other ratings on Conde Nast Traveller. In particular, you can find a large amount of luxurious villas in Sicily based on the ratings of the top 30 villas in Majorca, Corsica, and Sicily. Despite the fact that the ratings were published by the British magazine back in 2006, the fundamental approach towards the organization of leisure and vacationing in Sicily makes the ratings quite valid, even today. As such, some of the best villas in Sicily according to Conde Nast Traveller are Villa L'Edera, located in the beautiful nearabouts of Catania, Villa La Favorita in the neighborhood of Sicily's winemaking capital – Marsala, Villa Solanto on the Mediterranean coast, just a few minutes away from Palermo, Villa Torre Castelvetrano, which is near the ancient Selinunte, as well as other villas. The whole list contains 10 Sicilian villas.
