Nature, Leisure, and Culture – the pillars of the Canary Islands tour business model Sep 29, 2009Jose Manuel Bermudez, the tourism advisor (Consejero de Turismo) of the Municipal Committee of Tenerife (Cabldo de Tenerife) officially announced the new tour business model designed for the tourist who spend their vacations predominantly in the northern part of the island. The foundation of the new business model is relaxation, active leisure, sightseeing of nature, culture and local traditions. The consejero is convinced that the pillars of this new tour business model will withstand the challenges of the future. The new model will be tested primarily in such municipal regions like La Matanza de Acentejo, La Victoria de Acentejo, Santa Úrsula, Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, Los Realejos, San Juan de la Rambla, La Guancha, and Icod de los Vinos.
As a part of the new business model and proximity to nature in particular, Tenerife is now actively searching for new tracking routes, developing bike routes; the planning of a thalassotherapy center is in progress. There are efforts to popularize the Ecological Movie Festival (Festival de Cine Ecológico) in Puerto de la Cruz. Health food is another pillar of the new tourist business model. Special attention and care will be given to the historical and cultural heritage of the region – there are various restoration works in related infrastructural areas planned for the near future.
