The Turkish government is moving priorities towards improvements in transportation infrastructure. At the most recent meeting of the transportation committee of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that in the next 25 years, over 350 billion dollars will be directed to improve and modernize the transportation infrastructure of the country. It is widely expected that the new direction will give a push to the rest of the economy, in terms of both industrial and service oriented businesses. In addition to building new highways several new airports are planned for construction in Istanbul. An ambitious project will be fulfilled by building a third bridge over the Bosporus channel, that connect the Black and Marmara Seas, and forms the border between Europe and the Middle East.

Further development of the transportation infrastructure consists of following the strategic plan adopted several years ago. The first big achievement of this plan is a new terminal of the Sabiha Gökcen International Airport in Istanbul, which will open on the 31st of October. Turkey is in good geographical position. It is the joining link between the East and the West, and modern highways are very important for the country.
