Valle D’Aosta Gran Paradiso: history, culture, and traditionsOct 19, 2009On October 24th the organizers of the route called "Location- Gran Paradiso" will offer participants the opportunity to witness all the beauty, culture, and traditions of this Valle D'Aosta region. During the bus excursion and in the company of a guide visitors will be able to see some of the most characteristic and memorable places in the neighborhood of Gran Paradiso. The different stages of the tour are marked with theatrical improvisations and historical reconstructions, and in the end of the tour guests will be welcomed for a ethnic gastronomical tasting session of the best local produce.
The route "Location- Gran Paradiso" is a part of an international Franco-Italian project called 'Les Racines du Gout' (The Roots of Taste). The departure is scheduled for the second half of the day from the completely reconstructed Aymavilles castle, which is one of the most interesting architectural masterpieces in Valle D'Aosta. The next checkpoints include the ancient Roman bridge-aqueduct Pont d'Ael and the Chatel Argent castle located up on mountain rock above the Villenueve village. The wall of the castle protect the Roman style church of St. Mary – a 16 meter tower, as well as the chapel of Santa Coloma XI-XII centuries. Next, tourists will have the opportunity to walk and have a look around the Entro castle, which was opened for visits not so long ago. The XVII century country house, Maison Bruil, is located in the same village, and it hosts the permanent exhibits of the museum dedicated to traditional food products and traditional methods of food conservation. Here, in the hall called "The workshop of taste", travelers will end their tour with a tasting of local products. The session is conducted by an experienced master cook. Back to news
