Murcia, Spain is awaiting tourists Oct 21, 2009In 2010 the Murcia region in Spain will become a platform for a multitude of cultural and sports venues. Another interesting event is planned for next year – the region will host the Caravaca de la Cruz town anniversary, which will surely get international tourism attention and recognition. In addition to the above, the town will become a center for pilgrimage for the whole Christian world. The authorities ascertain that by the second half of next year the city will become host for over a million pilgrims. They will come to the central town basilica to seek forgiveness for all their sins.
One of the central cultural events in the region will be Estrella Levante SOS 4.8 Festival. For two days in a row there will be music at the festival. In addition to that, the European biennale (takes place every other year) of contemporary art called Manifesta 8, informs WTM London. There will also be a jazz festival taking place in San Javier, and in Murcia there will be a festival of "Three Cultures", in Cartagena there will be a festival called "A Sea of Music", and in La Union there will be a festival called Cante de las Minas.
La Union will also host a theme park dedicated to the once-biggest mine in the region, called Agrupa Vicenta – which was the largest mine in Spain at one point. The visitors will be able to learn how people worked here 200 years ago, watch the detonations of rock, or take a ride in a wagon cart. Another tourist offer from the Murcia region comes in the form of recreation programs for active tourists. In the Valle de Leyva, to the west of the Alhama de Murcia city, a network of routes has been developed for those who love hiking, tracking, and orienteering, as well as a set of routes for rock-climbers and paragliding fans. And as for those who enjoy beaches, Murcia has something special to offer as well. The region is famous for its 250 kilometer long coast, pristine beaches and luxurious hotels. Back to news
