The Eiffel tower laser show to celebrate 120th AnniversaryOct 23, 2009Paris gave the Eiffel Tower a laser show as a present for the 120th Anniversary of the monument. Now the people of Paris, as well as the tourists in the city, will be able to enjoy the way in which the tower changes lights and colors like dresses, several times a day. Normally the tower gets decorated with lights only for New Year.
On Thursday, the administration of the Eiffel tower organized a presentation of the laser system, comprising 400 projectors, which are going to be lit periodically every day at 20:00, 21:00, 22:00, and 23:00. The projectors lighten up the tower only from one side – the one facing Trocadero Square. At the beginning of the hour lights go on sequentially, all along the tower, much like on a Christmas tree, and bright lights shine according to the tradition. Following that, all the lights go off, and accompanied by a recording of old music the tower gets lit in segments of white –from the base to the top. The authors of this light show maintain that in such a way they simulated the building of the tower, which is now a trademark of Paris.
The show lasts for 12 minutes, and during this time several music records are played, and the tower manages to switch dozens of color patterns. To the sounds of the French accordion the tower changes between green, red and blue. The coloring is not too far from the truth: during its 120 lifetime the tower changes several bright colors, including yellow and orange. The projectors lighten every segment of the construction and as a result an amazing pattern of color emerges, moving quickly along the tower in different sequences – first in a row, then in a zigzag. The projectors are placed on the tower itself and lighten up instantly. They are controlled remotely. Back to news
