Spain will celebrate Chopin's 200th Anniversary Nov 11, 2009In dedication to the 200th anniversary of the extraordinary Polish composer Fredrick Chopin a large number of cultural, enlightening, social and touristic events have been planned in Spain. In 2010, which has been declared the year of Chopin, there will be many concerts in Spain dedicated the composer, as well as various exhibitions and even movie nights. The itinerary is only being planned at the moment, but it is already known that the anniversary of the composer will be celebrated especially well on the Balearic Islands, where Chopin lived from December 1838 until February 1839. The composer stopped at the Real Cartuja de Valldemossa, in Mallorca, about 17 kilometers from the capital of the island – Palma de Mallorca. It was here that the great composer finished his work on the cycle of 24 preludes.
At the Royal Carthusian monastery in Valldemossa there will be a festival held this August. The name of the festival is "Chopin 2010". In addition to the concert there will be an exhibition dedicated to the composer and his muse – the wonderful French writer George Sand. The exhibition features manuscripts and portraits. The visitors will be able to see the setting and the Pleyel grand piano, where Chopin created his masterpieces. In Bilbao an international music festival will be held this March. The festival is called "Near Chopin", and at the Replica, a theater in Madrid, you will be able to witness a special play based on the letter correspondence between Chopin and George Sand.
