The Templars have no place in Soria, Spain Dec 14, 2009"Los Templarios" (The Templars) – a sculpture created by talented sculptor Eduard Mazariegos, destined to remain at the warehouse for some time.
The authorities of Soria changed their initial plans in regards to the installation of the statue. According to initial calculations the monument of the legendary knights' order of the Temple was supposed to be installed in the middle of the square near the Cathedral Minster. Due to budget constraints in the place initially reserved for the sculpture a young tree was planted instead. This novelty was welcomed very well among the local residents, and as the opinion in the city council suggests, many people would be very disappointed if instead of the green tree and other plants there would be a big sculpture standing in the middle of the square.
The main problem with which the authorities were confronted happened to be the unreasonably high price for the Mazariegos art piece. The author was willing to sell his 3 tons masterpiece, for no less than 80,000 Euros. He was also ready to accept a lease, but the monthly payment of 1000 Euros was still too much for the city, even including the special insurance against vandalism.
Last time the people of Soria saw "The Templars" 15 years ago, when the sculpture stood for some time in the Mayor square. After that the monument was transported across Spain – and people could see it at the world fair in Seville, as well as the fair in Valladolid.
