Gran Canaria Carnival begins on January 26th Dec 21, 2009On January 26th, 2010 one of the brightest and liveliest festivals will begin in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The carnival is the most remarkable year event on the Gran Canaria island, Canary Islands, Spain. The holiday will last for 26 days – and the closing of the festival on Gran Canaria is planned for Saturday, February the 20th. The theme of the coming year's festival is related to the world of television, and everything related to it – TV shows, sequels, commercials and advertising, and many other things.
According to the tradition which has been established over the past few years, the Carnival starts with a contest of street musicians. The contest will start on January 26th and on January 29th, in the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Parque Santa Catalina there will be a public speech will mark the official beginning of the Gran Canaria Carnival. As usual, the guests of the carnival are invited to visit a multitude of contests, concerts, dances, and other festival events.
The Queen of The Carnival will be crowned in Gran Canaria on February 5th, and on February 12th the guests of the holiday will be invited for an "alternative election". Drag Queen selections have become traditional during the Las Palmas festival. On February 13th the streets of Las Palmas will feature a traditional Cavalcade. And on February 16th the capital of Gran Canaria will celebrate the festival with popular gatherings and dances. On February 20th there will be an event called Sardine's Funeral, which will mark the end of the festival. The organizers announced that, at the present moment, the registration for participating in different contests during the Carnival is open for everyone. Back to news
