A new Christmas program at the Loro Parque in Tenerife Dec 27, 2009Several days ago, at the Loro Parque – one of the largest zoological parks in Europe, located in the city of Puerto de la Cruz, north of Tenerife, – a brand new Christmas program was made available for the viewing enjoyment of the guests. The new holiday show is called Skyla en Navidad, which happens to be a show of four killer whales that live at the Loro Parque.
This kind of thematic show has already been organized during Halloween. The Christmas program featuring the killer whales was developed by the whale choreography and art director of Orlando, FL Sea World. During the new show the killer whales perform some of the most incredible jumps and tricks, "sing" Christmas carols, and interact playfully with the visitors.
The four orcas living in the Loro Parque, participate in the entertainment program of the Loro Parque Fundación. The program is dedicated to rise concern for the protection and preservation of this amazing species of whales. The employees of the park study the food ration of the whales and act very carefully in regards to the development of these sea mammals. In addition to the extra careful treatment of the orcas, the employees of the Loro Parque participate in a new project related to the study of the bioacoustics as they relate to the life and social interaction of the killer whales. For this purpose special microphones have been installed at a 12.5 meter depth underwater. The microphones help record the communication which takes place among the whales in the aquarium. There is also a set of underwater speakers used for playback of the sounds made by whales who live freely in the ocean. The park employees are making observations on the reactions of the whales to this digital communication. Back to news
