Yves Saint Laurent trade show in Paris Jan 21, 2010
At the Small Palace in Paris (Petit Palais) there will be a large trade show taking place this spring. The trade show will feature the work of legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. The show will run under the patronage of the first lady of France, Carla Bruni-Sarcozy.
The trade show is organized by the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Fund in association with the administration of Petit Palais and the Museum of Fine Arts of Paris. The exhibition will feature 307 models of both haute couture and prêt-a-porte, all created by the master at different times throughout his career. The exhibits will tell the story of the designer’s work over his whole career – beginning with the first steps with Dior in 1958 and the creation of the famous Trapeze line, and ending with the luxurious collection of evening dresses of 2002, following which the master has retired.
Multiple photographs and films will be featured at the trade show as well. The multimedia presentation will become an illustration of the historical context and help viewers understand how Yves Saint Laurent style has formed over the years – what inspired the master to create his amazing collections.
Yves Saint Laurent became the head of the Dior fashion house at age 21. He was the founder of the unisex style by introducing elements from men’s clothing into women’s clothing lines – leather jackets, thigh-high boots, and smokings. To find inspiration for creating his collections the author looked at street fashion (the scandalous collection of 1971); he also performed imaginary trips to find inspiration in the cultures of other countries (Russia, China, India, Spain, Japan, Africa and Morocco). Yves Saint Laurent is also a big fan of art, and in 1965 he released a collection inspired by the works of Modigliani. Other artists that influenced the works of Yves Saint Laurent were Mondrian, Matisse, Picasso, and Van Gogh.
The trade show and exhibition will last from March 11th until August 29th.
