Legendary steamship to be reconstructed in Canary IslandsJan 30, 2010The unique ancient cruise steamship "La Palma" built in 1912 was almost fully reconstructed by the masters of traditional ship construction.
The liner "La Palma" of the same age as famous "Titanic" sailed between Canary Islands until 1976 and was one of the oldest floating passenger cruise liners.
In 1986 it was towed off from Gran Canaria Island to Tenerife where they started its restoration later.
The restoration works were started in 1996 and lasted for 10 years. The masters were able not only to refresh the external looks of the ship but also to restore interiors of the ship with truly unique exhibits of the past time. As of today, the restoration people somehow were able to collect 259 different original items from the past interiors of "La Palma" steamship.
Ship restoration people hope that there will be special exhibitions opened soon on the ship "La Palma" for the audience to see, devoted to ship sailing in Canary Islands in general, as well as first passenger steamships. More likely, the liner will be located in port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Back to news
