An unusual hotel with rooms located right in caves opened in the region of Basilicata in Italy. Now all tourists will be able to feel like cavemen (troglodytes) without being deprived from the usual comfort. This unusual hotel city appeared near the town of Matera. It is located in prehistoric cave dwellings Sassi di Matera. Hundreds of caves and 155 churches were carved in rocks behind Matera. As of now, they all are protected by UNESCO. In connection with this, it seems a real miracle and gift for tourists that 18 caves have been still recently rebuilt into boutique hotels.

The hotel city Sassi di Matera has become a unique experiment of integration of modern technologies in the atmosphere of prehistoric past. At the same time, they were able to find an unusual solution and not turn this cave complex into a regular theme park. Upon first look at the doors and rusty keys, you'd probably think it's an entrance into an old shed. But rooms are full of light and look pretty comfortable. In renovated cave hotels there is everything, from comfortable armchairs to Wi-Fi and luxurious bathrooms.

Hotels differ in classes. There are simple 3 star hotels and boarding houses in Sassi, as well as fancy apartments. The accommodation costs range from 66 euro and more, including breakfast. This unique cave city welcomes guests from April till October.
