Winter Military World games to take place in Italy Feb 23, 2010Winter Military World Games will take place at Italian winter resort Val d'Aosta on March 20-25. More than 700 military sportsmen from 40 countries of the world will take part in this event. This was announced by the head of tourism in the region Aurelio Marguettaz during a meeting with the media, which has unfolded in Milan. For 6 days the Aosta Valley will be marked by a brilliant display of uniforms that are being addressed in various sports: Nordic skiing, biathlon, skiing guide, mountaineering and short track. This competition will become the most important sports event of the year and will also be an opportunity to see the athletes compete to bring home the prestigious trophy.
As organizing committee mentioned, the upcoming competition is very unique in many ways. For example, before the mountaineering competition, an elimination competition will be held where the participants will have to demonstrate their skills on an indoor wall of a stadium. Besides that, the audience will see spectacular biathlon competition, target shooting and cross country, as well as not less impressive competition in giant slalom.
No doubt, these events will draw fans from different regions. Biathlon competition will take place in Brusson; Nordic skiing – in Cogne Italy; competition in mountaineering and sprint – in Gressoney St. Jean; Alpine race – in Saint Oyen; Alpine skiing men's slalom and giant slalom will take place in Gressan. The festive opening ceremony will take place in Aosta on March 20 at 5pm. During the ceremony all participants will march, starting from Republic Square to Chamoux Square in the heart of the city. All awards will be held in Aosta as well at 6pm on March 25, thus the flame of this first edition of Military World Games winter will be extinguished. Back to news
