Marine reservation to be created in La Gomera in 2011Mar 10, 2010The marine reservation on the island of La Gomera must be created in 2011. The President of Town Hall of La Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, has recently informed about this during the press conference. Now local authorities have negotiations with the Government of Spain regarding the mechanisms of preservation of flora and fauna of the coast that surrounds the island.
Not only were the representatives of local authorities and nature preservation organizations present at the press-conference but also the representatives of University of La Laguna, as well as professionals in fishing and others. In April a scientific boat will start working at the banks of La Gomera with a crew that will study thoroughly the sea ecosystems of coastal zones.
After that ecologists and biologists will study the received data in details for the development of plan of creating a marine reservation, its conditions of functioning and dividing into zones of different levels of protection. Curbelo mentioned that the yearly budget of this project will be 500,000 - 600,000 euro. The marine reservation of La Gomera must become a unique place of protection of biological diversity.
