Roman Coliseum will be restoredMar 13, 2010Giant restoration works at one of the most famous Roman sightseeing places, Roman Coliseum, will be started in spring. The purpose of the works is to renew the external view of the building and restore it after the earthquake that hit the city last spring.
It's assumed that the works will last a year. The restoration will be carried out under the strict supervision of the state committee in protection of the archeological monuments. During the restoration works they will clean the walls, renew the fence, equip with security system and install the lighting.
During the restoration works the Roman Coliseum will be open for visitors on its regular schedule. The Roman Coliseum, Amphitheatrum Flavium (dynasty of Roman emperors), is one of the most visited sights in the world. More than 4 million tourists visit it yearly. Its building began sometime between 70 and 72 AC.
