The Asturias Rally will be replaced by Rally Islas Canarias Mar 18, 2010The organizers of the Asturias Rally of Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) refused to fulfill their obligations, the official site of the championship reports. As appears, the management of the rally has faced financial difficulties and will not be able to carry out the rally. The Eurosport channel that promotes the IRC announced about the replacement of the Asturias Rally that was supposedly expected to take place on September 9-11, 2010 in Spain, by another Spanish event Rally Islas Canarias. However, the new Spain's IRC round will take place not in fall but in spring this year. The rally will take place from April 28 to May 1 and will become the forth round.
Rally Islas Canarias is one of the most famous rounds of the Spanish Asphalt Championship. The organizers of the event are making special arrangements for the IRC regulars to get their cars and equipment to the Spanish island of Las Palmas which sits just off the coast of Africa where the rally will take place.
As the promoters of the championship reported, the contract with the organizers of the rally is signed for a year with an opportunity to be extended up to two years. 'Rally Islas Canarias enjoys a good reputation and benefits from a strong organizational background', Marcello Lotti, the General Manager of the IRC, said. 'We are hopeful this partnership will last for years.'
