Italy's beaches welcome dogsJun 05, 2010Friuli Venezia Giulia's beaches, Lignano and Muggia, are open for tourists with dogs. The first beach, Fido Lido, has been opened this year. It's an upgraded part of the urban park of Muggia (a few kilometers from Trieste). The beach extends to 6,000 sqm. Apart from the territory for sunbathing, the park is also provided with a playground for children, picnic areas, equipped routes with benches, showers for dogs. The areas for dog bathing are marked by special buoys. Besides that, members will be able to benefit from various services: grooming, sale of food, gadgets and accessories for dogs, hourly or daily dog sitting, a veterinarian for emergencies. Also, a professional trainer who will teach the dogs obedience and good behavior is available.
The second beach for dogs in Lignano Sabbiadoro is called the "Baubeach". It's a 24,000 sqm stretch of sandy shore. The use of this area is allowed from dawn to sunset to regularly registered and vaccinated dogs. At the "Baubeach" dogs must be kept on the leash. You can bathe your dog in the stretch of water in front of the beach. The guests at the beach for dogs will also have the opportunity to have fun with the equipment offered free of charge and try some small dog agility courses. Moreover, the staff of the beach will be available to provide useful advice on the correct man/dog relationship.
Besides these two bathing establishments, in Friuli Venezia Giulia there are several pet-friendly accommodation facilities. According to a recent survey, in 2009 in 73% of the region's facilities, from restaurants to hotels, dogs, cats and other pets were welcome.
