Free poetry on Santander busesJun 10, 2010There is an interesting project launched in Spain. This project allows the travelers who can speak and read Spanish to become familiar with treasures of literature. The authority of Santander, the mail city of Cantabria, decided to turn the city into the European Capital of Culture in 2016. With that end in view, the Council of the city announced a campaign that pursues a goal to familiarize travelers who use public transportation with poetry. You wonder how? Poetry booklets will be distributed among passengers on municipal buses. They will be able to read them until when it's time for them to get off.
The poems of five authors (Lorenzo Oliván, Marian Bárcena, Alberto Santamaría, Bald Mariano Are and Maribel Neat Fernandez) were included in these booklets by the initiative of the "Foundation Santander 2016". There were published 10,000 booklets, 2,000 booklets per each author.
There will be more books of different genres of literature published later. The main condition is that all authors must be Spanish, but their works must be short so that the passengers could read them until they get off. This idea is twice useful, not only for promotion of Santander as the European Capital of Culture, but also for attraction of public to the works of local authors. Back to news
