The biggest telescope in the world will be located in Canary IslandsJun 16, 2010A project of the biggest solar telescope in the world has been recently presented at a special forum in Bruxelles, dedicated to the development of astronomy. The representatives of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias - IAC who took part in this project, informed that it was decided to put the future telescope in Canary Islands at this forum. The European Solar Telescope (EST) is the biggest solar telescope in the world. It will be located on the territory of one of the observatories of Canary Islands, the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos on the island of La Palma or the Observatorio del Teide in Tenerife. The leading specialists in astronomy from Europe, Asia, the countries of North and South America will take part in the project of development and maintenance of this telescope.
New telescope will become the biggest solar telescope in the world. The budget for its creation is about 150 million euro. Astronomers say that the development of this telescope will become one of the priorities of development of technology in astronomy for the next years. It's assumed that this project will allow stimulating the development of unique scientific works in many countries of the world, as well as the regional development of astronomy.
