Tourists get the opportunity to see the underground areas of ColiseumJul 12, 2010The restoration works of tunnels and underground rooms of Coliseum will soon be finished. It's expected that the works will be over in August already and tourists will get the opportunity to see the underground area of the Ancient Roman amphitheater. This famous monument of antiquity was built yet in 80 BC and still attracts lots of visitors. The underground tunnels and rooms of Coliseum will be opened for visitors in August this year after the end of restoration works. All visitors will be able to see the places where the gladiators used to expect the beginning of games and where they kept exotic animals. It's assumed that the first visitors of the underground areas of the Coliseum will be the fans of cinema, especially the fans of "Gladiator".
The restoration works had to be carried out due to the fact that the elevators that were used to lift hungry bears, lions, tigers and crocodiles, became old. The restorations works were started yet in January. This project was estimated at almost 30 million dollars and it allowed to not only keep the catacombs but also show them to tourists.
