The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao rated the first among architectural projectsJul 14, 2010The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao has become the most outstanding architectural project for the last 30 years according to opinions of 52 leading world architects, critics and professors of architecture who were questioned by the Vanity Fair magazine. The Museum of Modern Art in Bilbao is one of several museums belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, built alongside the Nervion River. The Guggenheim Bilbao, built by the project of Frank Gehry in 1997, received 28 votes out of 52 from respondents. It's not amazing that the building that was rated the 2nd, received much less votes, just 10. The second favorite was the Menil Collection in Texas (its building was completed in 1987 by the Italian architect Renzo Piano).
Zumthor's baths in Switzerland built by the project of Peter Zumtor in1996 were rated the third and received 9 votes. Norman Foster's HSBC Building in Hong Kong built in 1997 received 7 votes and therefore took the 4th place in the rating. The Koolhaas's Seattle Central Library (2004) took the fifth place. Six respondents voted for it, while three respondents called it "the most outstanding building of the 21st century".
At the same time, according to a different survey from a magazine, Renzo Piano, one of the architects in the rating, is the author of the ugliest building, the new office of the New York Times (it was called so by the American Institute of Architects, the magazine reports). Back to news
