Tourists at the Costa del Sol will be glad to hear that a new service will be put in place to assist foreign tourists reporting crime on the Costa del Sol. The new service which is being set up by the police in the province of Malaga and the Costa del Sol tourist board is aimed to give a complete service to tourists struck by crime. In spite the often used nickname 'Costa del Crime' the Costa del Sol is actually a safe place to enjoy a vacation, with the name coming from the region's reputation as a hideout for British fugitives in the 1980's.

However, you should not forget that just like at any popular villa holiday destination there is a risk of falling victim to crime. But anyone that should find themselves in such an unfortunate situation can be assured that the newly formed Servicio de Atención al Turista Extranjero (SATE) will be on hand to assist. The new service has been launched for tourists and will offer a counseling and credit card cancellation if needed.

The main headquarters for SATE will be based within the Costa del Sol tourist board office. Regional police stations will have specially trained officers to attend tourists that fall victim to crime. This new project is part of a large scale project against crime across the region. Police hope that their increased presence will act as a deterrent for criminals operating in the area.
