Traditional medieval horse race on the main square of Siena, ItalyJul 20, 2010On August 16, 2010 in one of the most beautiful cities of Toscana called Siena the main horse race of the year will take place. This tradition has a history of over 700 years and it's held twice per year: July 2nd and August 16th. The horse race lasts for only 90 seconds and the riders go around the square Piazza del Campo 3 times without saddles, trying to pass or get the competitor off the saddle. The celebration lasts for 3 days but already one month before this race jockeys are being watched so that they couldn't make plans with each other.
Before the beginning of races you can enjoy an outstanding show – a parade of knights and acrobatic performances, singing of jockeys on the square, and fireworks, brass bands parades, tasting of dishes of Toscana cuisine and fun until the morning right after the horse race.
You can stay at the historical Grand Hotel Continental of the 17th century located close to Siena's impressive Piazza del Campo, which gives you a unique opportunity to observe festive processions on the streets of the city from the windows of your room. For those who want to see the parade and races, a concierge can book a special seat in the VIP zone on the square.
The price for this offer for a double room on Agust 13th and 14th is 590 euro; August 15th and 16th - 780 euro. Junior Suite Noble Floor, August 13th and 14th - 760 Euro, August 15th and 16th – 1 200 Euro. The rates include breakfast and taxes 10%. The minimal number of nights for booking is 3 nights.
