More than 400 cultural workers urged to stop final construction works of Sagrada Família temple, Antoni Gaudí’s architectural masterpiece. They say that constructors "betrayed Gaudí’s spirit". Construction of the temple devoted to the Holy Family began in 1882. In 1891 Gaudi became the chief construction architect. After his death in 1926 construction works were periodically stopped for a long time and resumed.

In the middle of 90s unfinished temple became a subject of heated debate, the group of architects and town-planners urged to cease the building. Nevertheless the project was resumed, it is planned to finish the work by 2026, on the occasion of the centenary of the death of the author.

The complexity of realization Gaudi’s idea is that he did not leave preliminary work plan. He rather improvised than followed a scheme, made alterations as the building went on. To accomplish his project Antoni Gaudi had to move into one of the temple’s room. He died being run over by a tram not far from Sagrada Família and was buried in the crypt of the unfinished temple.
