Tea or coffee? Luxury hotel or supermarket? The destiny of La Samaritaine has never been so unclear.

Famous French newspaper Le Monde will often write about conflicts between two stockholders LVMH and Cognac-Jay as regards La Samaritaine. A group of companies LVMH that produces luxurious goods and owns 59% of supermarket capital would like to turn an ancient trade house in a luxurious hotel. From the marketing point of view the idea seems to be very smart.

Louis Vuitton is a world wide known brand and is considered to be a symbol of typical French luxury. However, La Samaritaine is a part of Paris history and one of its sightseeing places. In 1984 LVMH bought Bon Marche, first store of Paris, and turned it into a supermarket of luxurious goods. La Samaritaine originated in the likeness of Bon Marche store.
