Madrid hotel makes a library out of the books left by guestsDec 15, 2008A library from the books left by guests appeared in one of the hotels in the capital of Spain. Many travelers leave books in the rooms being in a hurry to be on time for their flight or trying to get to railway station on time. As of today the library has 250 books. The collection of books includes novels, travel guides in English, Japanese, Spanish, Greek, Chinese and other languages. Language diversity is due to the fact that guests of the hotel located in Chamberi, not far away from famous Grand Via, the main street of Madrid, are mostly foreigners.
The Madrid hotel library collection includes many books; among them are a cooking book with recipes of traditional Italian cuisine, a book about Michael Jackson’s dances, memoirs of Spanish toreador Jose Ortega and medical books. The library has got bestsellers like Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons, and various religious books. “Book of Mormons” translated into Spanish is one of the most popular books.
The idea to create a library appeared more than a year ago when the hotels manager had about 40 books left by guests. After that the hotel library was created some hotels guests started to leave books on purpose. Unfortunately, there is no security system in the library; some guests forget to give the books back. Apart from books, guests leave many other things in the hotel, so the hotels management cannot decide what to do with these things. According to the joke of the hotels representative, the best thing would be to open a mini-market and sell left things. Many times guests would forget the phone charger in the room. Back to news
