Development of new cycle stations in Paris Jan 16, 2009

The City of Paris authorities opened new self-service bicycle stations Vélib' in the capital of France. New cycle lanes will be located in the vicinity of Paris. Boulogne-Billancourt, city in the western part of Paris, became the first city where they stated building new lanes. In just a few weeks local residents and tourists will be able to use new cycle lanes. Self service bicycle stations will be located in 30 regions, including Issy-les-Moulineaux, Suresnes, Vanves, Les Lilas, Saint-Ouen, Pantin and Vincennes. It’s planned to build at least 10 stations in every region. So, there will be 300 more self-service cycle stations in Paris. New Lanes will be opened by the end of 2009, Paris.fr reports.

Self-service bicycle scheme Vélib' was launched in Paris in summer of 2007. Since then and until January 4, 2009 it was used 41 million times. As of today there are more than 1200 self-service bicycle stations in Paris where you can rent a bicycle if you purchase a pass.

You can bring the bicycle back to any cycle station in the city. Cycle stations are located every 300 m along the route.
