Channel Tunnel will operate at full speed Jan 21, 2009Eurostar, the high-speed passenger train service announced on the 19th of January 2009 that it will return to a full service through the Channel Tunnel from the 23rd of February 2009. The return to a full Eurostar service follows the announcement by Eurotunnel, the owner and operator of the Channel Tunnel that repairs to the tunnel section will be completed by the 10th of February 2009. This will allow Eurostar trains to operate its existing departure times with trains on the route to Paris, Brussels and London. From this date Eurostar will return to a normal timetable with fastest non-stop journey times of London – Paris 2h15, London – Brussels 1h51 and London – Lille 1h20 and there will be more trains, with up to 19 services per day on the London – Paris route and up to 10 on the London – Brussels route.
Starting from the 22nd of February, 2009 Eurostar trains will return to a normal timetable. Repairs to the tunnel section have been made for 5 months after the Channel Tunnel fire occurred on the 11th of September 2008 on the train carrying heavy goods vehicles. According to expert evaluation the total cost of reconstruction of the tunnel will exceed several hundreds millions euro.
