The third Russian film festival “Vesna” started in Paris at the Lincoln movie theater – during one week visitors will watch around 30 Russian motion pictures, and professionals will discuss cooperative projects and the promotional opportunities for Russian movie productions in France. The president of the festival is Mireille Antoine, producer, director, and head of the company Les films d’Audace. One of the main goals of this festival is to introduce the French public to Russian cinematography. “Vesna” festival is interesting for professional since the previews set the stage for Russian and French specialists to discuss the development of Russian films in France, to plan for joint venture projects and solve technical intricacies.

The competitive character of the program is a committee based decision about the best movies of the year among those distinguished during other Russian and international festivals. The grand prix of the festival will go to one of the three movies produced in 2008: Karen Shakhnazarov’s “Vanished Empire”, Nikita Mikhalkov’s “12”, and Mikhail Kalatozishvili’s “Wild Field”.

“Vesna” has a special program prepared for the 100th anniversary of Diaghilev “Ballet Seasons”, which made Russian art famous in Paris. Viewers will see get a chance to see ballet movies of Andris Liepa “Phoenix Bird”, “Parsley”, and “Shaherezada”, re-created by Liepa in 1993 from Diaghilev’s original versions. Guests of the festival will also be able to see a selection of short films and documentaries as part of the program entitled “Retrospective of Karen Shakhnazarov”.
