Disney’s new animated film “UP” will open the program of the 62nd Cannes International film festival on May 13th. “For the first time in the history of Cannes film festival an animation film is featured during the opening. In the past animated films were normally demonstrated outside of the official program of the festival” – informs the press release distributed by Walt Disney Company.

For the first time the projection of the animation during the opening of the Cannes fil festival will be done using 3D technology. The animated film “Up” is the first Pixar movie designed for use with the Disney Digital 3D format. Specifically, in Russia a part of the animation will be possible to witness in a three dimensional projection in theaters that have the necessary digital equipment. The film will hit the Russian theaters on May 28th.

The lead role will be dubbed by actor Armen Dzhigarkhanyan. The retired traveler Carl Fredricksen will speak in his voice. Carl Fredricksen dreamed about travelling to exotic countries all his life, but he succeeded to get out of his city only at old age and in some unusual circumstances. He tied lots of balloons to his house and it caught air. Carl finds out later that by accident a kid named Russell is also flying in the house. The eight year old conqueror of the skies joins Carl in his quest.

Pete Docter, the director of “Up”, is a four times Academy Award nominee, as the co-writer of “Wall-E”, as second director of short animated film “Mike’s New Car”, as the director of “Monsters Inc.”, and as co-writer of the film “Toy Story”.
