Historians maintain – the newly discovered tomb in Turkish Efes belongs to the sister of Cleopatra Apr 01, 2009The tourism committee of Turkey announces the sensational discovery of archeologists working in Efes. Historians discovered the grave of Arsinoe –sister of Egyptian queen Cleopatra. Generally speaking Efes has been long considered the historical center of Turkey because of the large amount of Roman ruins and its close relationship to the roots of Christianity. However the discovery of such a unique site in the neighborhood of Efes is an event of global importance. The tomb discovered by archeologists has an unusual octagonal shape. The evidence which survived to this day leads the scientist to conclude that the tomb belongs to Arsinoe. By the way, it is believed that she was murdered, as in 41 B.C. Cleopatra ordered that her own sister be killed. The specialists argue that the discovery is even more interesting because the tomb is 300km away from Egypt.
This discovery gives additional food for thought about the life of this family to which the only female ruler of Egypt belonged. Tourists will have the opportunity to see the new attraction when the restoration work will be finished. Historians believe that such a unique finding deserves restoration, and it is intended to obtain the original look. Even now Efes cannot be called a boring town. Travelers are familiar with this part of the Aegean Sea due to the Temple of Artemis. In fact, Arsinoe was murdered right in this temple. Back to news
